Mimico Jr Masters Lacrosse Team
As mentioned in our previous post, the TMLL is home to players of the Toronto Masters Lacrosse tournament team and will soon be home to players of the Mimico Masters team. Brian Curnow and I will be championing a new Mimico Jr. Masters Team and will be inviting interested players who have proven themselves with sufficient lacrosse performance and experience to participate in the 2012 OLA Tournament Schedule.
Commitment, lacrosse performance and experience, as well as overall good team spirit are key to being selected to play. These are key aspects to being selected to play on any OLA tournament team. An example of commitment is the following 2012 OLA Tournament Schedule:

April 21st - Erin (one day tourney 2 games)

May 4,5,6 - Midland

June 1,2,3 - Fergus

June 22,23,24 - Huntsville

July 20,21,22 - Owen Sound

August 10,11,12 – Niagara-On-The-Lake

August 24,25,26 – Provincials (Brampton was mentioned but location was not confirmed at the Annual General Meeting of the OLA)

The cost per player will be approximately $250-$300 for the full season, including Provincials and OLA Player’s Insurance or $75 per tournament plus one-time OLA Player Insurance of $15. These funds are due by a post-dated cheque dated for March 2012. Commitment for at least 3 qualifying tournaments that Mimico Jr Masters will participate in is a must. Additional individual expenses will include food, travel and lodging.

OLA Tournament Teams
The TMLL is home to players of the Toronto Masters Lacrosse tournament team. Each summer season, the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) sanctions a schedule of tournaments within the Masters Lacrosse Division. Each tournament is hosted by their respective team within a different city in Ontario. At the end of each season, the teams are ranked in accordance to their overall season’s performance and play for the Provincial Championship. Interested players are selected by invitation and added to the team roster. Each player must be at least 21 years old and may not be carded (signed) by another OLA Division such as Senior B or Senior A.

There are two age groups in the OLA Masters Division, Junior and Senior. Anyone who is age 21 may play on one Junior team for a season, and must be age 35 and over to be eligible to play on a Senior team. Each team must participate in three tournaments to qualify for and play in the Ontario Masters Provincial Championship. Each player must play in at least 3 games to qualify and participate in the Provincial Championship.

Fall/Winter Lacrosse Interest Survey Results
Results for a Fall & Winter Session was very positive. Unfortunately, floor space availability was an issue. We are still looking into a facility that will provide us with year-round access for the Toronto Masters Lacrosse League and pursuing a venue to begin in the New Year. Our regular summer league is on schedule to begin accepting registrations in late February for interested players.

Toronto Masters Lacrosse Fall/Winter Interest Survey
Are you interested in playing more lacrosse on Thursday nights? I have been asked to look into organizing two more sessions of Toronto Masters Lacrosse for the Fall and Winter seasons. I need to survey any interests out there before finalizing bookings.

There will be a maximum of four teams with up to 13 players per team, following Masters Lacrosse Rules and officiated with two referees. Each player fee will include OLA Player’s Insurance. Each season will be shorter than our usual 15 weeks which will also bring individual player fees down substantially. The location will once again be at the Scarborough Soccer Centre (SSC). Please let me know in the form of an email if you are interested in another night of lacrosse for Thursdays at 8 & 9pm.

TMLL End of Season 2011
I would like to thank all the participants of the Toronto Masters Lacrosse League in making another successful season! This year, we have managed to budget enough money to reward 3 players from each team, selected by their respective captains, in acknowledging special contributions that they made during the season. Also a big thanks to the captains, the TMLL entourage (everyone knows who they are), Elsie, Joshua, Tim Piret, Michael Elliott, Gord Brown, and Neil Atkinson for their contribution and support. I’m hoping to budget enough money next year to expand the prizes for more recipients. Congratulations to the Highlighters Team for winning the “Ernie” Championship Cup. Yes, the Ernie is an actual Urn.

The 2011 TMLL MVP awards were given to Andrew Rohmer and Jena Blair for achieving the most points.

The Toronto Masters Lacrosse League inducted its first Hall of Famer, Bill Ross. Bill turned 70 years young on May 6 this year and is now worthy to receive the TMLL Hall of Fame status. With that privilege, he is now responsible to buy everyone in the TMLL a round of drinks before and after every game. Congratulations, Bill!

This year’s individual player prizes were selected by their Captains and given to the following recipients:

Highlighters
Most Improved – John Freeman
Best Attendance – Brendan Stretch
Best Playmaker – Dan Shaule
